Start Your US VoIP Compliance the Right Way
The 6-step federal roadmap, from FRN to traceback, plus the deadlines you cannot miss. We handle the filings and track every deadline in your client portal.
Why it matters
Carriers will not route you
Upstream carriers will not route your traffic unless the right FCC filings are on record.
Your calls get labeled
Unverified calls are blocked or tagged as "Spam Risk" before they ever connect.
Penalties are real
False or inaccurate Robocall Mitigation Database filings carry a $10,000 base forfeiture per violation.
The 6-step roadmap
STEP 1 OF 6
Laying the Foundation
Register for your FCC Registration Number (FRN) in CORES, file the initial FCC Form 499-A to get your 499 Filer ID, and appoint a DC registered agent.
Pro tip: Keep your CORES details current. Changes must be updated within 10 business days.
STEP 2 OF 6
Numbering & Network Routing
Secure your Operating Company Number (OCN) from NECA. It unlocks Service Provider ID (SPID) registration and is a prerequisite for STIR/SHAKEN.
Pro tip: Choose the OCN type that fits your service model and confirm it will be accepted for STIR/SHAKEN before you apply.
STEP 3 OF 6
STIR/SHAKEN Authentication
Meet the prerequisites, enroll with the STI-PA (iconectiv) to receive your SPC token, get a certificate from an approved STI-CA, then sign your outbound IP voice traffic.
Pro tip: The STI-GA sets policy, you enroll with the STI-PA, and certificates come from an STI-CA.
STEP 4 OF 6
Robocall Mitigation Database (RMD)
Every voice provider certifies in the FCC RMD and maintains a robocall mitigation program. Recertify every year (window opens February 1, deadline March 1).
Pro tip: Update changes within 10 business days. False or inaccurate filings carry a $10,000 base forfeiture.
STEP 5 OF 6
Consumer Data Protection (CPNI)
Annual CPNI certification is due to the FCC every March 1. Have written procedures, employee training, customer authentication safeguards and a breach notification process ready.
Pro tip: A corporate officer signs the certification, which covers the prior calendar year.
STEP 6 OF 6
Combatting Telecom Fraud
You commit in your RMD certification to answer traceback requests from the FCC, law enforcement and the Industry Traceback Group (ITG) within 24 hours.
Pro tip: Know your customer at onboarding. Keep KYC files and call records so you are ready before request number one.
Regulatory calendar
